New Breeders wanting to Start

Cost and whats included

Travel and other new requirements

Some important things to note as we go into our 14th year as a Highlander cattery. First and foremost, this is my passion, my hobby and yes, the cattery income sustains the cattery needs and helps sublimate our household needs. This is nowhere a big business or money maker for those of whom are looking to start breeding. You have to do it for the love of the cats and the families they will bring joy to. Being a breeder is harder than the average person knows.  That being said I will be implementing a Mentor program for new breeders. This program gives access to me pretty much 24/7 for years. There for the cost of a brand-new breeder will be 3000.00 Which includes the kitten, Breeding rights and lifetime mentorship. Breeding right is not just on a whim. It takes dedication to the breed.

Side note if purchasing a pair from us it will only be the mentorship for 1 kitten. I love to help new breeders I always have. This is no ill will to anyone wanting to start breeding. It is covering the 24/7 lifetime of my help, support and time.

The cost of your new furbaby has gone up. I know this may be a disappointment to many however what has been included has also changed. We will now be including spay/neuter on all kittens, all age-appropriate shots, deworming, rabies if requested or required, microchipped, professional ear cleaning at vet , basic health certificate, 1 month flea/tick/ear mite protection and 30 days free insurance from Trupanion.

Here are the reasons we have changed some of this. A couple things over the years have contributed but most are recent. My vet was able to offer me a reasonable rate for altering litters and I feel like I should pass that along to our fur families.

The insurance goes along with no matter how hard any breeder tries we cannot keep our babies in a bubble. Stress of new homes and travel can bring out a lot of common illnesses with no clear indication or symptoms prior to them leaving or upon issuing the health certificate.

In regard to Health Certificates. The basic health certificate offered by my vet is included. The state approved for airline travel is an additional cost from the vet. Each state will require different regulations when flying into their state.

To sum up to the cost of your pet only companion highlander kitten our current cost is 1300.00 of which a 300.00  nonrefundable deposit fee is required to cover all vet costs.

Some travel and other new requirements. We are now requiring an application filled out. It can be found on our last page of the website. This is to insure we have vet information and proper contact information. Basic inquiries can still be sent to our email, Facebook or by text. We tend to use Facebook the most.

Travel changes. We do currently have access to a possible flight nanny at the buyer cost that flies through the continental USA. We also offer pick up for local families, please note we are considered a closed cattery depending on our litters or mamas you may be meeting on the deck or outside.

We offer meeting our families in any direction within an hour of our location depending on scheduling for free. Any meeting in person over an hour will have an extra travel fee.

We do offer to meet families at MIDWAY airport in Chicago. Midway is by far the easiest to meet at for both parties. Ohare has many inconveniences for all parties.  Please note again that Health Certificates for flight are not included in cost of kitten.
